What Are Veneers?

Dental VeneersWant to disguise the stains in your smile?

Dr. Jennifer Robb, your Lorain, OH, dentist, can help improve this issue. She provides patients with dental veneers, a cosmetic procedure that rejuvenates and, in other cases, completes you smile.

A great smile has good tooth color, shape, and proper alignment. Veneers are strong wafer-thin coverings made of porcelain that go over other surfaces to repair large chips and cracks. They substitute natural tooth enamel when bonded to the front surface of your teeth.

The dental porcelain is a great substitute for natural enamel because it's translucent and tough; it doesn't stain like tooth enamel. Your Lorain dentist removes enamel from the surface of your teeth, which is an irreversible process, before bonding the veneers.

In recent years, advanced dental technology nullified removal of enamel, and veneers constructed to be thin enough to bond directly onto your existing tooth surface.

Veneers improve:

  • Size and Shape: Some people are born with irregularly-shaped teeth, pointed ends, or too small. Teeth are also worn down over time due to teeth-grinding (bruxism). Whatever the reason is, you can make custom veneers that'll have the shape and size that'll give you a great smile.
  • Color: Teeth staining is a natural process. With aging, yellow dentin under the enamel starts becoming more visible. Other lifestyle choices also change the color of your teeth, like eating certain types of food such as blueberries; drinking tea, coffee, or sodas; or smoking or chewing tobacco.
  • Alignment and Spacing: Sometimes people have gaps between their teeth that need closing. If you have minor gaps and misaligned, slightly crooked teeth, veneers can help conceal those issues, while providing teeth with a beautiful color and shape.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding veneers, just call and schedule an appointment with Dr. Robb. Your Lorain, OH, dentist can determine whether or not veneers are the right dental procedure for you.
