Brush and Floss at the Same Time!

We all know we should floss. Despite the recent news story claiming flossing isn’t supported by research studies, almost any dentist or dental hygienist will tell you that we see a difference in the gums and teeth of people who floss regularly vs. those who don’t.

Waterpik has a new product called the Sonic-Fusion that seems to address most of the reasons we don’t like to floss. The Sonic-Fusion is a combination rechargeable ultrasonic toothbrush and a Waterpik water flosser in one unit. You can brush and floss at the same time or separate the two, depending on your preference. You can learn more about the product and view a video on how to use it at this link: https://www.waterpik.com/oral-health/lp/sonic-fusion/

Basically, instead of having to use a string to clean between your teeth, the Sonic-Fusion uses a stream of water to clean out any debris from between your teeth and you can floss at the same time you’re brushing your teeth if you want to, which saves you time! (The timed cycle for brushing is 2 minutes. Most studies were done with 2 minutes of brushing and 1 minute of flossing—Still less than the 4 minutes of manual brushing we recommend, even if you brush and floss separately with this unit.) Just think of it! No more having to wrestle string between your teeth or feeling like you’re having to put your whole hand in your mouth to reach your back teeth!

What’s really impressive is that the Sonic-Fusion has an ADA acceptance seal. This means that the technology has been tested and has met the standards that it claims. Independent studies show it removes more than 99% of plaque when used correctly. In some cases, it even reaches areas below the gumline that traditional floss can’t reach.

So, it seems like there are lots of reasons to use this product for flossing and very few reasons not to. Discuss it with your dental professionals at your next visit.
