Dental Implant FAQs

If you’re faced with the choice of replacing a missing tooth or teeth, chances are your dentist will discuss dental implants with you. Dental implants are fast becoming the standard of care to restore health and function for single and multiple tooth replacements. Here are several commonly asked questions about dental implants and the answers.

How long do dental implants last?

They can last the rest of your life if you take care of them. Dental implants have a 98% success rate. (Compare that to the other replacement options which often need to be redone 5-10 years after the first placement!)

How long does getting a dental implant take?

Placement of your dental implant takes10-20 minutes. After your dental implant is placed there will be a waiting period of 3-6 months before your dental implant is restored. This time allows for your jaw bone to grow around the dental implant and anchor it in your jaw so that it can hold the final restoration.

Is the dental implant process painful?

There is very little pain with dental implants. Our patients tell us the implant placement is the least painful part of the process. The restoration is often accomplished without the need for numbing.

How much does it cost?

Currently we advise patients to plan on $3000 for the dental implant placement and another $2000-3000 to restore the implant (after the 3-6 month wait for it to be ready to restore). I know it sounds expensive but remember if you take care of this, it will last the rest of your life. For all other tooth replacement options, replacement is needed after about 5-10 years. So after about 7 years the implant actually becomes the least expensive of the tooth replacement options.!

If a dental implant is an option for you, we strongly encourage you to consider it.
